The training familiarises you with the legal regulations. This includes practical applications as well as specialist duties and authorisations in the security industry.
The training is conducted exclusively by the IHK. In rare cases, IHK lecturers conduct the training on the premises of private companies. Security services through. This makes particular sense if more than 10 people from a company are doing the training at the same time.
It is often referred to as the „40-hour course“ because, as the name suggests, it only lasts 40 hours. The course is usually held at the relevant IHK in a weekly course of 8 hours on 5 consecutive days. The first 4 days consist of a theoretical part. On the last day there is a repetition of the previously discussed topics and a subsequent test. This test must be passed with at least 50%. In exceptional cases, the duration of the training can be reduced to 4 days of 10 hours each. There are no preparatory courses for the instruction according to §34a GewO, only for the expertise according to §34a GewO.
The training according to § 34a of the GewO corresponds to the minimum qualification to be allowed to work in the security industry. Security staff may only be deployed on duty once they have successfully completed the „seat training“. The deployment of unqualified personnel is an offence against the trade regulations and can be punished with a heavy fine. It is permitted to deploy security personnel with training, for example for guarding emergency exits, night-time Construction site security, whole Object protection, Site security or other simple activities. However, in order to work as a shop detective, city patrol officer or doorman, you need a licence in accordance with Section 34a of the Trade, Commerce and Industry Regulation Act. This training is much more extensive and consists of a written and oral examination at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. In the run-up to this rather difficult examination, you must either study intensively on your own or attend an academy. There are various academies in Germany that offer so-called specialist preparation courses. These courses often have a modular structure and range from evening courses to 6-month intensive courses, which are subsidised by the employment agency or job centre.
Note: The training is necessary to be authorised to work in the security service. It costs around 420 euros and can be completed within a week without a difficult examination. The IHK is usually very overcrowded with training courses, so you can expect to wait up to 4 months for a place on a course. With the training you are not allowed to work as a doorman, shop detective or city patrol (guarding in public areas).
Expertise is the next higher qualification. However, this is much more extensive in terms of training and can only be passed after weeks or months of preparation. Admission to the certificate examination currently costs 175 euros. However, this does not include a preparation course.
