It will soon be that time of year again and the carnival will be back on our streets. Due to the high threat of terrorism in Germany, all major events in any form are increasingly in the spotlight. How can suitable measures be taken to protect such major events? At events in stadiums, festival halls or other closed festival grounds, such as the Munich Oktoberfest, security can be ensured by tightening security checks at the respective entrances. At the same time, no visitor's personal freedom is seriously restricted by the controls. But how can security be guaranteed at a carnival? Especially in the carnival strongholds such as Cologne, Bonn or Düsseldorf, street parades are very lively and these events usually extend to the entire city centre area.
