In recent weeks and months, our security staff have been accompanied by several camera teams in the course of their work. These are exclusively reports that reflect the working life of a security employee. Nothing is staged. In principle, anything can happen during the camera work. „That's what makes it exciting,“ says Stephan D., one of the main protagonists and a security employee at Paffen Wach- und Sicherheitsdienst GmbH from Bonn. In the previously broadcast episode of „Achtung Kontrolle“ on Kabel Eins, employees Stephan D. and Sascha M. were accompanied during their work as patrol drivers in the Bonn city area.
Security staff on patrol
During a patrol or patrol check, security services drive to customers' properties and carry out a check, a lock or other tasks specified by the customer. Possible tasks range from locking gates and doors to switching off lights, coffee machines, etc.
The experiences of the night summarised
At the start of the shift, our two security staff were equipped with bodycams. A dashcam was also permanently installed in our security service vehicle. Of course, there was also a cameraman to enable a change of perspective. However, in order to make the experiences of the night as authentic as possible for the viewer at home, almost the entire programme takes place in the „first-person perspective“ of both protagonists. Initially, the two drivers drive past a number of private and commercial properties. At first, everything pointed to a quiet shift - but that was all to change later on. In a garage in Bonn city centre, there had previously been considerable problems with homeless people and people from the drug scene. Normally, nobody can get into the building or garage if it is properly locked, but the garage door had been tampered with and could not be closed. This opportunity was of course used extensively throughout the night by undesirable clientele. Some excerpts and dialogues with consumers are broadcast in the episode. „Situations like this can quickly become dangerous,“ says Stephan D., an experienced security guard from Paffen Wach- und Sicherheitsdienst GmbH in Bonn. „Drug addicts can behave uncontrollably both before, during and after drug use. In such cases, it is important to act in a determined and objective manner. You always have to have a de-escalating effect on the person, but be prepared for anything.“
We are looking forward to more great projects, especially in the time after Corona. The security industry is severely restricted during the pandemic. Many fields of activity, such as the Event security cannot currently be exercised. This is precisely where exciting opportunities arise to show the varied everyday life of security staff. „I've never been in front of a camera before. It was a completely new situation for me. But it was an exciting project that I would be happy to take part in again,“ says Sascha M. in the interview.
